Collaborative Generosity

Jim’s professional journey started with serving as a trainee computer operator for the reserves during the Vietnam War, followed by 25 years of installing computers. He credits the Lord for placing him on that path as a way to help others.

“I was able to start saving,” explains Jim. “I started to tithe, plus give whatever else I could.”

According to his wife, Noreen, Jim is supposed to be retired. However, as a self-proclaimed go-getter, Jim is still looking for opportunities to give and serve.

That passion led Jim to an organization called Think Eight:Seven, a nonprofit with the mission of empowering churches and communities in developing countries. It was here that Jim met Chuck, one of the two founders of the ministry. This encounter sparked a vital friendship and a collaborative journey of generosity for years to come.

Through their friendship, Jim learned that roughly one-third of the population has never heard the name of Jesus. This realization drove him to partner with numerous non-profits, helping spread the Lord’s name through the grace of giving.

“I get joy out of planting the seed for others,” says Jim. “I’ll do whatever I can to help spread the gospel.”

Jim describes Barnabas Foundation’s Stewards Fund (donor-advised fund) as a streamlined way to plant those good seeds for the gospel.

Through it, Jim and Noreen have provided critical support to Think Eight:Seven and their other favorite ministries.

Plus, because they contribute stock and other appreciated assets into their Stewards Fund, they’ve been able to reduce their taxes and increase their giving capacity.

“It’s one of the most powerful things you can do to support your favorite causes,” says Jim.

What’s more, the Stewards Fund provides them with a simple, tax-efficient way to give beyond their lifetime. “At the time of our passing, our gifts will be separated out per our wishes,” explains Jim. “Barnabas Foundation makes it very easy to maintain. I can’t say enough good about what they do.”

Likewise, Chuck can’t say enough good about the creative ways Jim is helping him share the Gospel.

“One of Jim’s greatest gifts to any ministry, including Think Eight:Seven, is his great heart for networking,” explains Chuck. “He is tremendous at connecting the right people together.”

“I am grateful for Jim and his financial generosity,” says Chuck. “He helps us move forward, which is an extremely valuable gift.”

When it comes to their stewardship, Jim, Noreen and Chuck encourage others to recognize the fact that God owns it all. “One day,” explains Jim, “God is going to ask us what we did with the resources that He has entrusted to us.”

“Not just financial, but other aspects of life too,” adds Chuck. “That changes how you think about everything.”

“I see myself as an arm of God that He’s used to bring the name of Jesus to others,” concludes Jim. “How can I help others with the Love of Jesus? That is what warms my heart the most.”
