At their annual Scholarship & Donor Appreciation Dinner, Calvin Theological Seminary recognized Barnabas Foundation as this year’s recipient of their Legacy Award.

Established in 2016, the Legacy Award is designed to recognize and cultivate philanthropic and charitable giving from one generation to the next.

In the video announcing the award, Rev. Jul Medenblik, president of Calvin Theological Seminary, said, “We were one of nine entities that started Barnabas Foundation, and [at that time] we did not know what God was going to be able to do – but we hoped and prayed. Today, we mark and celebrate 220 member organizations for Barnabas that minister around the world. …. We give thanks to God for Barnabas Foundation and for what we are able to do together globally.”

“Barnabas plays, and has played, an important role in the legacy of generosity here,” said Dave Morren, board chair of Calvin Theological Seminary. “[They have] provided leadership, passion and a vehicle to not only teach but to steward these legacy gifts which are important to the future and ongoing success of the Seminary.”

“We feel very honored to support and partner with Calvin Theological Seminary, which has been preparing people for ministry since 1876,” said James Bakke, executive director for Barnabas Foundation. “It’s just amazing that we get to be part of this! For our Foundation to even be considered for this award is a great honor.”

Previous Legacy Award honorees have included individuals and families who have been longtime supporters of the Seminary. This marks the first time Calvin Theological Seminary has named an organization as the award’s recipient.
